Dr. Marcel Kremser

Science, quality and project work

I am a biochemist working in Scientific Research & International Affairs (SR&IA) at INSTAND. My work combines scientific projects with external quality assessment and data analysis.

I lead a work package in the European XMET project and contribute to EQA schemes for molecular diagnostics. This website introduces my responsibilities and selected work.

My scientific background

My scientific training began in molecular biology and medical biology. I completed my doctorate in biochemistry at the University of Tübingen, where I worked in platelet research.

Since July 2023, I have been a Research Associate at INSTAND. My current work focuses on diagnostic quality and collaboration in European metrology projects. A central concern is how results from different laboratories can become comparable and traceable.

My responsibilities include coordinating scientific work and analysing data. I use digital tools to support recurring workflows and contribute findings to publications and scientific exchange.

My work in projects

XMET

Work Package 3 leadership

I lead Work Package 3 in the European XMET metrology project. The work package addresses diagnostic quality assurance and its application to pandemic preparedness.

I coordinate collaboration within the work package and the planned contributions to external quality assessment. The scope includes planning joint EQA activities and coordinating with the participating organisations.

GenomeMET

EQA partner · Scheme development and method evaluation

As an EQA partner, I contribute to setting up and developing suitable schemes for GenomeMET. EQA means external quality assessment, which independently compares laboratory results.

I organise sample shipments to the project's metrology institutes, where the samples are used for method evaluation. This connects my EQA work with the assessment of measurement procedures for genomic diagnostics.

ctDNA tumour panel

Scientific coordination

At INSTAND, I coordinate the scientific work on the ctDNA tumour-panel EQA scheme. ctDNA is DNA originating from tumour cells that can be analysed in blood.

My responsibilities include contributing to the proposal, coordinating with the EQA scheme lead, and planning and procuring samples.

Analysing data and supporting workflows

Analysing scientific data is part of my day-to-day work. I focus on presenting results clearly and using digital tools to support recurring tasks.

Data analysis and automation complement my work in quality assurance and project coordination.

Organising and evaluating training

I contribute to the organisation and evaluation of training in urine sediment diagnostics and cerebrospinal fluid cytodiagnostics. Both programmes are offered by the INSTAND Academy.
